Fantasy Football Sit/Start | Week 13

Wednesday, November 30th, 2011

Greeting all weekly fantasy football die hards, and welcome to lucky week 13. If you’re facing tough decisions this week, and you’d like specific advise, tweet me at unSOPable23. Here’s a quick preview of three players I’m benching or not spending my valuable money in a weekly salary cap fantasy football games, and who are the typically inferior options in which I prefer.

Peyton Hillis is back in the Browns backfield and led the team in carries last week. But with an awful offense around him, and a hungry Ravens D coming to town, Hillis shouldn’t be reinserted into your good graces quite yet. Instead, look to the Lions Maurice Morris, who will start in place of an injured Kevin Smith. Detroit figures to feature their struggling running game in an effort to keep Drew Brees on the sidelines. I’m penciling MM in for at least 85 total yards.

The Houston Texans are expected to falter, but it won’t because of their stout defense and elite running attack. With the Texans looking to run the ball every down, expect a down weak from Matt Ryan. The Falcons time of possession will be low, and he won’t have enough opportunities to outperform somebody like Carson Palmer this week. Palmer has been rock solid of late for the Raiders, and the Dolphins (while hot) are not good defensively. Oakland’s running game is a load, and Miami will be forced to cover the speedy Raiders one on one.

Things have gone downhill for the Chiefs fast, and it’ll continue this week for their lone fantasy relevant player: Dwayne Bowe. The Bears are a top notch defensive unit, and with Tyler Palko behind center, the Bears secondary may touch the ball more than Bowe. Eric Decker (yes, that Eric Decker, the one who plays with Tebow) is the better option despite playing in a run first offense. He is Tebow’s go to man, and the Vikings actually stuff the run reasonably well. Denver doesn’t win this game with 55 rushes, and odds are that most of the air attack is filtered through Decker.

As the college football season winds down, the games hold more importance, as conference championships are on the line. Here are two players that will rock  this week college fantasy football games, and carry their owners.

David Wilson (RB for Virgina Tech) – Has managed at least 132 rush yards in every road game this season, and records 20+ carries in 75% of contests. He will get plenty of chances against a Clemson defense that surrenders 27.5 points per game.

Austin Davis (QB for Southern Miss) – Will be in a shoot out with Case Keenum, and has the talent to surprise. He’s thrown for 3,052 yards and 2.4 touchdowns for every INT. Davis has accounted for at least three scores in six of his teams last nine games, and he figures to make that sever out of ten on Saturday.

Good luck to all this week in the fantasy festivities.

2011 Fantasy Football: Week 12 Review

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Week 12 is almost behind us. It came as fast as it’s going to leave and week 13 will be here before we know it, so let’s get moving. Tom Brady had the biggest day for quarterbacks, tossing 24 completions for 361 yards and 3 scores. Ryan Fitzpatrick finally broke out and gave owners the big game they’ve been looking for, going 24/264/3. That’s fantasy for you! Who would have thought Fitzpatrick would go off against the Jet pass defense like that?

Mark Sanchez surprised everyone by throwing 4 touchdown passes on 180 yards and Matt Ryan threw 3 touchdown passes too. Vince Young also had a big day against the Patriots throwing for 400 yards and a touchdown. Wes Welker had the biggest day for non-quarterbacks. He caught 8 balls for 115 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Johnny Knox had the second biggest day in fantasy amongst non-quarterbacks catching 4 passes for 145 yards and score. He also added 133 return yards. This was Knox’ second productive game in a row. Could this be a trend? Watch Johnny Knox in week 13 closely to see what happens. He could be a bargain in weekly salary cap fantasy football games.

Laurent Robinson is next in line for our big game performers for week 12. He went 7/79/2. Percy Harvin did what he does and gave his owners 8/95/1 to go along with 104 return yards. He would have had a touchdown on his long kick return, but got knocked down right at about the 3 or 4 yard line, bummer! Beanie Wells rushed for a career-high 228 yards and a touchdown against St. Louis. Roy Helu was also big on Sunday. Helu went for 108 rushing with 1 TD and caught 7 passes for 54 yards against the Seahawks. Helu was definitely a weekly fantasy football steal.

Moving on to injuries, Andre Johnson finally came back this week after missing 6 games with a hamstring injury. He might have some rust to shake off as justified by his 2 catch, 22 yard performance. Either that, or Matt Leinart could have had something to do with that. Fred Jackson was placed on IR a couple days before Sunday’s game, so C.J. Spiller got the bulk of the work. He ran for 55 yards and added 3 catches for 15 yards.

LT missed another game for the Jets dealing with that knee. Julio Jones missed his game with the Vikings because of his hamstring, leaving all the work for Roddy White (10/120/1) and Adrian Peterson was held out as expected because of that high ankle sprain. We’ll see if he can’t give it a go next week.

As always, be sure to get on over to Fantazzle and check out all the weekly fantasy football games we have for you over there. We feature college fantasy football games and pickem games too! You can either play for free, or try and play the money games for cash prizes. I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving week, now, it’s time for Christmas!

2011 Fantasy Football: Week 11 Review

Monday, November 21st, 2011

Happy Monday,

After tonight’s Patriot/Chiefs game, another week of 2011 fantasy football action will be in the books, but not without it’s set of injuries and high scorer updates. Let’s take a look.

Matthew Stafford had the biggest day among all quarterbacks on Sunday, tossing 28 completions for 335 yards, 5 TD’s and 2 INT’s. If it weren’t for his iffy finger and that glove on his throwing hand, I would have started him over Eli Manning who went 18/264/1/1–darn it!

Running back Kevin Smith totaled 201 yards from scrimmage with 3 touchdowns and 6 receptions. Can you say, welcome back Kevin? Definitely look to try and add him to your roster this week in all weekly fantasy football game formats.

Aaron Rodgers threw for 299, 3 TD’s and a pick, Roddy White had a 7 catch, 147 yard game, Jordy Nelson kept his hot streak alive with a 6/123/2 performance and Torrey Smith got behind secondaries again this week finishing with 6/65/1. Let’s not forget about our boy nasty Nate Washington who finished his day off with 9/115/2.

Nate Washington is having a career year right now, so roll him while he’s hot! Johnny Knox had easily his best game of the season this week with 3/97/1 and 74 return yards for those of you in return yardage leagues. Let’s see if he does that again in week 12.

SALARY CAP FANTASY FOOTBALL: TURKEY DAY SPECIAL–> PLAY NOW!

As always, the week just wouldn’t be the same without it’s new set of injuries, so let’s get started. Adrian Peterson limped off the field in the first quarter with a left ankle injury after rushing for 26 yards and a touchdown. It looked as though he was getting ready to have a big game and then he got hurt. For now, he’s considered day-to-day with a high ankle sprain, but he might have to miss a game or two. Should that be the case, Toby Gerhart would be in line for extra work.

LaDainian Tomlinson missed the Thursday night game against the Broncos with a sprained MCL, but plans on playing this Sunday against Buffalo. Shonn Greene started on Thursday night and was supposed to have a big game with LT out, but was forced to leave early with a rib cage injury. He expects to pay this Sunday as well.

As a result, Joe Mcknight saw an increase in work and filled in admirably. He ran for 59 yards, caught 6 passes for 62 yards and had 39 return yards as well. Julio Jones did not play against the Titans with a bum hamstring, so again, Harry Douglass saw extra targets. Douglass finished with a modest 4 catch 51 yard day.

2011 Fantasy Football: Week 10 Review

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Week 10 in the NFL gave us yet another exciting day of football. There were plenty of big performances and of course, lots of injuries to go around. Let’s take a look at which players either helped or hurt their owners the most this week in 2011 weekly fantasy football games. Laurent Robinson filled in admirably for the ailing Miles Austin by grabbing 3 catches for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns. That’s his third straight game with at least one touchdown catch and will get the start again next week against the struggling Redskins.

Rob Gronkowski is playing like he’s the best tight end in the league right now. On Sunday night against the Jets, Gronkowski was targeted often and early en route to an 8 catch, 113 yard, 2 touchdown game. The guy is fast, big, can catch and Tom Brady loves going to him, so I wouldn’t bet my chips on anyone else right now at the TE position.

Arian Foster got loose on the Tampa Bay Bucs for 2 touchdowns on 186 total yards and 4 receptions. What else is new? Tony Romo had easily one of his best games of the season with a 148.4 passer rating against the Bills. He completed 23 passes for 270 yards and 3 touchdowns. Larry Fitzgerald also had a huge day in week 10, catching 7 passes for 146 and 2 scores. Demarco Murray also had another highly productive game. He ran for 135 yards, 1 touchdown and caught 6 passes for 36 yards. Roll these guys with confidence for your fantasy football salary cap games in week 11.

As for injuries, Knowshon Moreno tore his ACL in the first quarter against Kansas City. Consider him done for the year! Lance Ball should make for a worthy add, as he ran for 96 yards on 30 carries against K.C. Miles Austin is slated to miss two more weeks with that hamstring, so make sure to add Laurent Robinson for the time being–all leagues. Jermaine Gresham returned to action after missing his last two games with a bum hamstring and went 4/23/1. Andre Johnson missed his 6th game this week even though he had been running for most of the week in practice. Jacoby Jones and Arian Foster were the beneficiaries. Kevin Walter kept on run blocking.
